Sheriff David Clouse

Navajo County

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN!

Although the nip isn’t in the air yet, soon our summer residents will be heading out for warmer winter climes. One more item to add to your “Close up the cabin for winter” list is to go get an application from the local Heber/Overgaard (H/O) unit of the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers (SAV) to start or renew your House Watch program.

The H/O SAV unit has been doing House Watch for many years. SAV units in other towns such as Show Low, Pinetop, Lakeside and others, also have House Watch programs if you know someone in those areas who would like to sign up with their House Watch programs. The House Watch includes a walk around of your cabin, rattling door knobs, checking windows and looking for any unusual situations around the home. If there are signs of a forced entry, the SAV will contact the Sheriff’s Department to send out a deputy. Otherwise, we will contact the owners if we encounter a problem.

Many summer residents and SAV members have become good friends through this program. It is sad to see our summer residents depart for the winter, but a very happy occasion when we see you return in the spring.

The Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Therefore, we survive on donations. From these funds we donate thousands of dollars back to local charities in the Heber/Overgaard area. The House Watch program is one part of our non-profit organization. Donations can be sent to Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteers, PO Box 1163, Overgaard, AZ 85933.

Application forms can be found at the Rim Country Senior Center, the Heber and Overgaard post offices bulletin boards, the Ace Hardware and True Value bulletin boards and the American Legion bulletin board. We attend HOA meetings and leave forms at the club houses. Also, contact our Treasurer, Sharon Merk Rasmussen, at 928-240-8239 or email her at heberovergaardsav@gmail.com for forms or information. She can get you a paper copy or email you a form.

We welcome you to the group!
